Flying with a REAL ID

Are you ready to make the change?

Starting May 7, 2025, the federal government will be requiring a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver's license, or another form of ID to board a domestic flight, when the REAL ID Act will be enforced by the Department of Homeland Security and TSA.

REAL ID-compliant cards will have one of the following stars on the upper right portion of your driver’s license:

Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota, and New York states issue REAL ID and state-issued enhanced driver’s licenses, both of which are acceptable. Washington state issues enhanced driver’s licenses only. State-issued enhanced driver's licenses are marked with a flag. These documents will be accepted at the airport security checkpoint when the REAL ID enforcement goes into effect.

Other forms of identification are acceptable, including a passport. Visit the TSA website (https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification) for acceptable forms of ID, and the DHS website (https://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs) for FAQs regarding this program.
